The Washington Post
The Washington Post interviewed me about the time-stretch meme for a December 2011 story titled, “A 44-minute disc that takes 4 months to play? It’s time stretching.”
During the interview, I discussed that musician Nick Pittsinger is credited as the person who launched the meme in fall 2010 when he took Justin Bieber’s “U Smile” and drastically slowed down the song to 800 times slower than its normal sound. I elaborated on how the song and technique became viral with hours, accumulating thousands of hits on SoundCloud and attracting plenty of chatter on Reddit. I also talked about the tools used to stretch songs (PaulStrech, Fruity Loops, Adobe Audition and Audacity) and revealed my favorite time-stretched songs.
Here’s what I’m quoted as saying:
It definitely has an evergreen quality. … I think that it’s very comforting to listen to.”
